At Kirk’s Mountain Adventures, we offer guided backpacking trips in Estes Park. If it is your first time backpacking, you want to properly prepare yourself for your adventure. Beyond getting the right gear, there are certain guidelines to keep in mind to make the experience the best it can be for everyone involved. Here are our dos and don’ts of backpacking trips:
While we provide the necessary gear for your backpacking trip, you will want to pack your own clothes and other necessities. Be realistic about what you will actually need. If necessary, pack and repack until you have a light load filled with only the essentials.
DON’T: Wear brand new hiking boots.
Wearing brand new boots while hiking is asking for blisters. Wear either hiking boots that are broken in already, or take the time to break them in before the backpacking trip.
DO: Listen to your guide.
Our guides are very experienced in backpacking, and know the trails in Estes Park better than anyone. Be sure to listen to your guide and put faith in their ability to keep you safe. Wandering off alone could put you in serious danger.
DON’T: Be hard on yourself.
If you find yourself struggling, know that you are not alone. Backpacking involves hours of physical activity. If you cannot keep up as well as others in your group, it is okay. Don’t let self-criticism get in the way of enjoying the natural beauty of Rocky Mountain National Park.
On our guided backpacking trips in Estes Park, we provide all of the gear and knowledge you need to have an amazing time, so don’t worry! By following these simple dos and don’ts, it promises to be a trip you will never forget.
